Family History Fireside Elder and Sister Gibb
By Sri Anon

Millions of us are waiting right here To step forward we can't No hope for us who have waited for years You wouldn't understand Many spirits are upset and sad Whose names are missed
My prayers and hopes have been rewarded in the end A child has my name on his list I do hope he receives his reward And ah ...for this happiness, no one knows That they have sent them to the house of the Lord I am only a name amongst the pile of cards
Those were some of the words of a poem presented at the fireside with Elder and Sister Gibb, couple missionaries who visited Jakarta on 01 October 2011. They serve in the Asia Area and their calling is to be Family History missionaries. The missionaries and some members of the Jakarta Second ward presented an interesting play on family history and temple work.
In one of the presentations, they represented millions of spirits who are waiting for help from members of the church to have their proxies done in the temple such as baptism, to be sealed to their family, etc. Some of them have been waiting and hoping. One of them for example is Lycurgus Thompson. He died hundreds of years ago. He often came to the temple to see baptism for the dead, and had hoped someone would represent him ... but had to leave sadly because his name was not in the names represented. However, a lot of them were lucky to find their names were represented. Says Elizabeth Jones, she was so happy and said Yes!
Let us do our family history and do proxy for those who have passed on. They cannot be perfected without us nor can we be perfected without them.
" ... Families can be together forever, through Heavenly Father's plan. I always want to be with my own family ... and the Lord has shown me how I can ... the Lord has shown me how I can. (Hymn 300 and D&C 138:47-48) |
