New Lives through Wheelchairs and New Artificial Limbs

(Reported by: Elder and Sister Meredith)

We had such a wonderful feeling as we entered Dr. Titi’s Women and Children’s Hospital in South Jakarta.  There we were met by her wonderful staff and a hospital full of people that were there to receive new lives through wheelchairs and new artificial limbs.

Dr. Titi had invited the young people that had severe disabilities to come and meet two of our great NGO’s.  Through them, we saw 70 young children receive new wheelchairs and an additional 10 people receive artificial limbs to replace legs and arms lost through accidents.  Our hearts were full as we met and talked to many of these young people and their families.

Our great NGO’s are UCP Roda Untuk Kemanusiaan’ out of Jogja who handle our wheel chairs,’Yayasan Peduli Tuna Daksa’ in Jakarta for artificial limbs, and Dr. Ny. Hariarti S. Pramulyo and her great hospital in Ciputat, ‘Rumah Sakit Ibu & Anak LESTARI’ who partner with The Church and our LDS Charities. (Muslim, Hindu, Christian all working together).  We are looking forward to another project in the near future.  As we talked to many of these young parents and children they were so excited to be able to get out into the world and experience things they had never seen before.  Some will start school for the first time.
